The Ludum Dare 48 game jam is in the books here at Tech Valley Game Space, and the latest LD event was fun for the whole jam fam!
TVGS has been hosting a communal jam site for local Ludum Dare participants for the entire duration of our community’s existence, starting with our first-ever gathering for LD31 back in late 2014. Although we have shifted these activities online to the TVGS Discord for the past few LD events, our gatherings are still going strong in the current virtual format. We had a number of first-time participants joining in the festivities this time around, which we always love to see. Our communication channels remained lively throughout the weekend, with lots of chatter in our voice chat as Space Cadets exchanged ideas and helped each other solve technical challenges.
As usual, we’ll be keeping the group activities going with LD-themed communal livestreams on our Twitch and YouTube channels over the next few weekends. Tune in to TVGS Transmissions from 7-9pm EDT every Saturday between now and 5/15 to join us as we play and rate Ludum Dare submissions created by our fellow indie game developers from all over the world. If you would like us to check out your LD entry on our livestream, you can submit it via this form.
Last but not least, let’s take a look at the LD games created by our local Space Cadets! The theme of the jam this time around was “Deeper and deeper” and each project demonstrated a unique perspective on this theme. Here are the entries created by game developers in the New York Capital Region for the LD48 game jam. As usual, we will be adding all of these games to our ever-expanding list of projects by local creators on the TVGS itch.io page.
Deep Dive
Welcome to Deep Dive, an ocean exploration game. A few days ago the water samples started changing so a research submarine is being sent down to collect samples at deeper depths.
Navigate your sub down to get deeper samples. Avoid the wildlife as they have been increasingly aggressive and will damage your sub. The deeper you go the more samples you will get and the higher your score. But be careful as diving too deeply is dangerous, you don’t know what you will find.
Gacha Simulator 2021
A little experiment for Ludum Dare 48. The theme was “deeper and deeper,” and this project is the beginning of a more in-depth gacha sim game that talks about addiction. The gacha simulator is functional (albeit with placeholder UI), but none of the story has actually been added in to the project yet.
